Canals, culture and the captivating charm of Amsterdam

Hello and welcome to my blog! My first post is about my trip to Amsterdam with Emily, on which we both fell in love with the city right from the start. While you can also travel by night train from Vienna to Amsterdam, we flew there with KLM. To get around the city, we bought a ticket for public transport, although the typical Dutch way of transportation is biking. So, you can always grab a bike at one of the numerous bike rentals and explore the city on two wheels. On our trip, we stayed at an Airbnb for the first time and loved it! Picking up the keys worked perfectly, the apartment was pretty charming and located in the hip district of De Pijp. There, you can find a lot of great cafés and restaurants, while the area is also not too touristy. Thus, in combination with staying at an Airbnb, one nearly gets the feeling of being a local.

After dropping our stuff off at the Airbnb and grabbing food at The Meets, we started our sightseeing tour in Amsterdam with a canal cruise to get a first impression of the city. Also, the Red Light District is worth a visit and is exciting to stroll around, especially in the evening. The following day, we had breakfast at Coffee & Coconuts and went to the Anne Frank House later. And while you might need to queue for a while to get in, it’s definitely worth the wait and an impressive yet emotional place to visit. Other attractions include the I Amsterdam sign in front of the Rijksmuseum, the Heineken Experience, the Van Gogh Museum, and the Royal Palace of Amsterdam. But you can also simply walk around the city to discover beautiful places and see the main attractions of the city. Or, if you need a break from sightseeing, just grab something to eat, sit down at one of the canals, and enjoy the vibes of this city!

On our last day, we went by train for a day trip to Zandvoort, which takes about 25 minutes. While the beach was pretty empty in April, it’s a pleasant change to the hustle and bustle of Amsterdam. In addition, already celebrities such as Sisi once spent their holidays here.
