Healthy vegan bliss balls

It’s been a while since I posted a recipe here on the blog for the last time but that doesn’t mean I haven’t been cooking and baking since then. On the contrary, especially during quarantine, I baked a lot, made sourdough bread for the first time, and tried new recipes in general. And although I love cake, especially during a coffee break in the afternoon while working from home, I also like healthy sweet treats. Thus, the other day, I made these vegan bliss balls without any added sugar and in three different flavors so you can choose your favorite one. But I promise it’s indeed also worth trying all of them.

All you need for preparing the base is a cup of soft dates, a cup of soft figs, and a cup of any nuts, e.g. almonds or walnuts. And then spice them up with the following additional ingredients.

The salted caramel & peanut butter balls
  • 1/2 a teaspoon salt
  • 2 teaspoons of peanut butter
The chia and chocolate balls
  • 3 teaspoons chia seeds
  • 2 teaspoons chocolate powder
How to prepare them

First, soak the dates in hot water for about 15 minutes to make them softer. Then, add the dates, figs, and nuts to a food processor and mix until you get a sticky dough.

To prepare two different flavors, divide the dough into two halves and put one half in another bowl. Add salt and peanut butter to the base and mix again to create the salted caramel flavor. For the chia and chocolate flavor, add chia seeds and chocolate powder to the basic dough and mix as well.

Then it’s time to roll. Put some oil (e.g., coconut oil) on your hands and roll the dough into bite-sized balls. Finally, decorate them with different toppings. Therefore, roll the salted caramel balls in grounded nuts while rolling the chia & chocolate ones in some more chia seeds. Once you are done, store them in the fridge in an airtight container and enjoy them – bite by bite.
